Estancia is the county seat of Torrance county. It is in the center of one of the largest agricultural valleys in the state. The Estancia basin has excellent reserves of irrigation water close enough to the surface to make it practical to irrigate large farms (50 to 1500 acres.)
Recreational opportunities abound in the nearby area, with the Cibola National Forest offering the Sandia Crest Complex, the Sandia Mountain Wilderness, the Manzano Mountain Wilderness, and the Cedro Peak, Oak Flat and Fourth of July Canyon areas. Salinas Pueblo Missions Nat'l Monument, with Abo, Quarai, Gran Quivira are also close. Manzano Mountains State Park
Estancia has its own public school system for grades K-12 and a short commute into nearby Albuquerque offers all the advantages of a major metropolitan area.
